Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman is the most prominent figure in the history of Bangladesh. He is called the father of the nation and architect of independent Bangladesh. He is recognized as the greatest Bangali of the past thousand years. We owe to his charismatic leadership for making us a free nation. This great leader was born 17 March, 1920 at Tungipara in the district of Gopalgonj. His father’s name was Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and mother’s name was Begum Sayera Khatun. He received his primary education at Gimadanga Primary School. He passed the matriculation examination from the Gopalgonj Mission School. He obtained B.A. degree in 1947 from the Kolkata Islamia College. He joined politics at the age of eighteen having been impressed by Hossain Shahid Suhrawardy. In 1948 he plunged himself into Language Movement and he was expelled as a law student by the Dhaka University authorities, he was arrested and thrown into prison. He became minister in the cabinet of Fazlul Haq in 1954, with the proclamation of Martial law in 1958, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested and kept detained without trial. In 1966, he put up the historic six points and as a result, he was thrown behind bars by the Ayub Khan government. After mass uprising in 196, he was released and he achieved landslide victory in the parliamentary election in 1970, but the military ruler Yahya Khan conspired and kept parliament session postponed. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman addressed a mammoth public gathering in the Race Course on March 7, 1971 and invoked the people for the struggle for freedom. He was arrested on 25th March, 1971 and was taken to Pakistan. The Pakistani rulers started a bloody massacre on Banglees. Under his bold leadership Bangladesh achieved freedom on 16 December, 1971. He was sent back home after liberation. For his great contribution he si called the father of the nation and is greatly respected. H was the Prime Minister and sometimes President of Bangladesh But unfortunately he was assassinated by some misguided army officers as a result of international conspiracy on 15th August, 1975, along with most of his family members excepting for his two daughters. It is considered a great loss for the nation. Nothing can compensate the loss. He was engraved at Tungipara. So, it can easily be said that he is the most important political figure n history.
